Another part of the company is wanting to leverage a cloud based server for some requirement – advanced analytics, pricing applications, AI/ML project, micro-services, etc. They are coming to IBM i I/T folks to ask how they can get critical data that they need from Db2 for i. This session will answer that question for you, including a couple of approaches using open source Apache Kafka.
Learning Objectives:
1. Learn about Apache Kafka as the glue to stream data
2. Understand different approaches and the advantages/disadvantages of those approaches.
3. Enhance your knowledge of the data streaming into cloud services world

Dear Members:
Can you believe the holidays are already here. Where is 2022 going? We have a lot to be thankful for this year. IBM i continues to provide new tools, improvements and add something for everyone. It’s exciting to be back out and about face to face again. We’re hoping to get a date for MITEC scheduled. Stay tuned. We’ll post information as soon as we have updates.
Student Meet and Greet
Our recent “Student Meet and Greet” event was a great success. We were very pleased to have 27 students participate and many organizations looking to connect with student resource and colleges including IBM i curriculum. As a result several connections have been made and conversions are in progress. If you weren’t able to make it on January 25th and would like to connect with the students and/or schools that participated send an email to Laura at ubelhor@sbcglobal.net. There is a great bunch of students ready, willing and able to become the next generation on IBM i. We are planning some future similar events and will keep our community updated on events.
We’re excited to have a very awesome and useful topic for our February meeting. Thank you to Simon Hutchinson for all he does for the community. If you haven’t done so already you should visit and sign up for Simon’s site RPGPGM.com. Simon ha been serving the community for many years through his blog. We appreciate that Simon is presenting in February. We all use spool files in one form or another. Fewer and fewer companies over the years are printing hard copies but instead are working with electronic copies of spool files. Simon is going to share insight into how you can go even further in what you can extract from spool files with tools that everyone has available on IBM i. The meeting will be held in virtual format through GoToMeeting only. We hope you’ll join in and look forward to seeing you there.
In March we’ll have John Wescott from IBM presenting Streaming/Replicating Db2i Data into “The Cloud”. IBM continues to deliver new solutions to the IBM I community needs. Join us in March to find out more of how you can make use of the cloud with DB2 data.
