Presentation: | Tricks with Spool Files using SQL |
In the past few releases and TRs IBM has introduced a number of SQL views and table functions
that allow anyone to do things to spool files that they would have had to use APIs or complex
programming. Become the superstar at your company with the knowledge on how to do all of this with
just a few SQL statements.
From the President

Dear Members:
Can you believe the holidays are already here. Where is 2022 going? We have a lot to be thankful for this year. IBM i continues to provide new tools, improvements and add something for everyone. It’s exciting to be back out and about face to face again. We’re hoping to get a date for MITEC scheduled. Stay tuned. We’ll post information as soon as we have updates.

Student Meet and Greet
In January the user group will sponsor a virtual student meet and greet. There are a bunch of students eager and looking for opportunities. Based on inquiries from members we know there are also many organizations looking to add younger resource to the team. We’ll send an advance email planned for later in January well prior to the event. We are modeling the virtual event after our MITEC student meet and greet. It will be an informal activity that will allow community an opportunity to connect with students and educators and an opportunity also to look for interns and future resource on IBM i. We already have a good sized of students signed up and 2 colleges have so far confirmed participation. Keep this on your radar. We’ll post information as soon as we have firmed details.

COMMON will be held in Colorado this Spring. Find details at https://www.common.org/education-events/powerup-2023

Student Resource
As many of you are aware I often work with students, educators and helping community connect with future resource on IBM i. I was able to attend an Infor event in Milwaukee where Paul and I manned an IBM i resource booth and also COMMON in St. Louis where I manned and participated volunteering for CEF (COMMON Education Foundation) and connected with several students that are looking for internships and opportunities. If you’re interested in student resource please contact me at ubelhor@sbcglobal.net and I’ll share student and college information. There are a great group of students that are looking for opportunities.

We kicked off the 2022/2023 SEMIUG year with some great meetings and we’re heading into the New Year with an exciting can’t miss meeting. Edmund Reinhardt will be sharing information for developers on new technology and tools. If you’re a developer you’ll want to attend to gain invaluable insight on what is current and if you’re a manager or IT team member you’ll want to participate to learn and be informed and aware.

It’s that time of year again. If you haven’t done so already please pay SEMIUG dues. Dues help us be able to continue to bring current education and opportunities to our local IBM i community. Dues are the same low price $100 per organization and $50 for an individual. You can find the form to pay dues at the bottom of the membership tab.
We hope your holiday season is very merry and bright. We’ll look forward to enjoy the holidays with our family and friends and look forward to seeing everyone virtually at our exciting January meeting.

Merry Chrismas and Happy New Year.
Regards,
Laura
